It’s impossible to not notice that Wayne’s Coffee is everywhere in the city. The coffee shop started in Stockholm in 1994 and it’s now Scandinavia’s leading coffee shop chain. Just in Stockholm, there are 33 stores and 100 all over Scandinavia. At Wayne’s you can find caffe lattes, large muffins, popular smoothies, chai latte, and etc. A very good tip is that if you’re wandering around town and running out of battery, Wayne's Coffee can be an alternative for you to recharge your computer and mobile phone. They even have power cords for popular mobile models that you can borrow. Service is great, coffee is fair, and thumbs up for the free wireless and muffins. It's important to stress that since there's one Wayne at every city's corner, you need to be really , I mean REALLY, precise when using it as a reference point to meet someone. Yep, been there, done that and got lost.

Muggen can be considered one of the most popular stop at Götgatan. The café is full with young and hip Swedes and it's also a great place for coffee and light meals. The salads are a highlight. The cheerful and modern decor features cozy sofas, nice chairs and large windows for people watching. Stockholmers gather here in one of Sweden's best-loved examples of fika culture. Fika is a social institution in the country and, in short, it means having a break, most often a coffeebreak, with one’s colleagues, friends, date, family or Martians. You name it! Muggen is without doubt a place to visit when in town and to have a taste of what fika is all about. Service is great, people are friendly and its espresso is fair. However, using the toilet is always an endurance test because there is just one loo. Both men and women line up and wait desperate for a wee. Well, no one can say that Muggen is not an egalitarian place. So, hold your bladder and get your mug sinner!

A cup filled up with attitude

I was excited about going to Kaffe, the first stop in the coffee quest. The place has only a few seats in a large space. It is clear that they are aiming to be an Italian coffee bar. Trying to be a place where you grab a shot of espresso quick while standing in the counter. I was excited about trying out something new as I'd heard good things about the place from locals. Thus, I arranged a get together with friends. And, yes, they were Swedes. Kaffe is definitely what Stockholmers claim it to be. It’s a bar where you drink mainly coffee. No surprise regarding the costumers though. Kaffe is crowded with city's people in their mid-thirties and upwards, grabbing a quick coffee or sitting by the large windows facing S:t Paulsgatan. The people are gorgeous and really know how to enjoy life. On the other hand, you will not find many foreigners hanging around there. Like me, a Swedish friend would bring them there. Unfortunately, there is more attitude in the cup than a good espresso. Warning: Kaffe is not the place to go for a big meal, but perfect for people watching or for grabbing a quick coffee. They serve Caffe Monteriva, which is a Swedish espresso brand. Sadly, it's a coffee that is too sour to my taste and I was a little disappointed. So, the quest for my favorite café in Stockholm still continues.

The quest for the perfect cup of coffee

From North to South to downtown, my friend and I are planning our pursuit of the perfect cup of coffee in Stockholm. Our sin, we are very demanding people when it comes to coffee. As result, we always ask for special roasts, which have to be superior to the mass-marketed offerings out there. In order to find the perfect cup of coffee, we are going to visit some of the most popular coffee bars in town. Our attempt is to discover the wonders hidden behind the counters.
